No, this not the "ideal" date where you take the private jet to Paris for the weekend. For once, I'd like to stay in the real world (I heard yunz gasp, but just stay with me here); what do you consider a good first, "third", birthday, Valentine, anniversary or simple resonse to, "We never go out anymore!" sort of date?

My standard, "go-to" date? "I tell you what, sweetness; there's a nice resturant at the mall, then maybe you'd like to do a little shopping."

A good picnic is always good, some wine, a nice park, a rug, a picnic basket with nice food in it (not ham sandwiches and pork pies) and maybe a bit of an alfresco cuddle Wink

Hey everyone,

Its me again, the new girl. What is a good date for me? Well it depends on my mood. I may want to have a nice dress up occassion where I go to an upscale restaurant for fine cruisine and maybe some dancing followed by a walk on the beach, in the park or a carriage ride.

I may be in the mood for a good 'ole down home country girl kind of date where I wear jeans and a hat and then go to the "honkey tonk" LOL.

Then there are times when some drive through followed by clothes tearing hard breathing naked body slapping sex LOL. Well OK the food can wait in this instance.

The bottom line is that you should communicate with your date and find her or his mood and plan from there.

a nice dinner, somewhere that isn't terribly formal, dancing, and conversation. You can get to know the person while having a nice relaxing evening.

May be cliche but I always like the dinner and a movie. Well actually I like to go to the movie first so there is something to talk about during dinner. Well at least a jumping off place for dinner conversation. I've never really had much time talking.

Also its better to eat after, so one doesn't feel rushed during dinner to get to the movie on time.

That doesn't sound cliched at all. You could also talk about the movie and previews during the car ride to the restraunt to "break the ice" so to speak and by the time you get something to eat you feel that much more relaxed with the person and can talk more easily.

Not that I'm opposed to a wee nip of the spirits now and then, but I generally don't imbibe when on a date (or any other sort of adventure with a lady).
No alcohol, no controlled substances (other than prescription stuff, of course), no excuses---take responsiblity for whatever happens next.
Frankly I have no need for whine, a beer buzz, ect; "Milady you are all the intoxicant I can handle."

That said, all excellent ideas thus far; can't wait to see how this topic plays out over time...

I dont tend to 'go on dates' ....its usually more hanging out with them than a formal date as such. Which I rather anyways.. much more relaxed.

So, invisiblesteph, if I understand your post, your idea of a nice date is a friend drops by; you guys either go out for ice cream or whatnot, or stay in and hang out?
Your guy drops by with a pizza and a DVD?

Interesting tack; no stress, mostly fun---but do you ever get dressed up and head out?

Ah, but do you ever get dressed up and go out for something more elaborate? Dinner, dancing---I wonder how you'd look in an evening gown or cocktail dress.
This fits my definition of fun as well.

Yeah see the way I think of it is that on a date there is an expectation that it may lead to some kind of romance and I think that puts a lot of pressure on both people.. why not just hang out be friends and see if it goes anywhere? That way you get to know each other better with not so much pressure and if it doesnt work out then you can at least be good friends.
